Mission?

So.....well I really don't know what is in store for me in the future, but the past two days I have had a strong feeling that I should serve a mission. I have always wanted to do a service abroad somewhere and what a better way to do that than by serving the Lord for two years? Its all up in the air of course because a lot can happen in a year and a half but it is a real possibility. I would be the first sister missionary in my family, so that would be neat. Also sometimes I feel SO selfish because I have the gospel in my life and its the greatest thing ever and I have done almost nothing to share it with others! I also went to a missionary prep fireside tonight given by Elder Cook the the 70. It was really cool and the stories he gave were so inspirational. I respect the guys who so willingly go on missions! Maybe I will go.....

A real name please!

So my name obviously is one of a kind and it gets made fun of a lot-I've been called va(GINA) Dickman, Dickerman, and just plain G Dick. I'm still waiting for people to realize that no matter what they call me, I've heard it a THOUSAND times before. However, I recently hit a new blow to my name while applying for a scholarship. When I entered my name it came up saying, "Hey now, how about a real first name?" I tried a few more times but apparently the computer has more common sense than my parents to know that the name Gina Dickman is embarrassing and so I proceeded to enter my sisters name instead. So even though marriage is not the first thing on my mind right now I really can't wait to ditch the combo of Gina Dickman and have something a little less embarrassing.

Besides my name being weird life is amazing right now! I am so incredibly blessed it is almost ridiculous. When I think about everything I have been given I feel guilty just because I know so many people out there have it so much worse than I do and do more with what they are given.

One last thing. All my guy friends are getting their mission calls. Since when did we all grow up?! I am so proud of them all though- I know they will all be amazing!

I felt the need to procrastinate

So I should be reading poetry right now for my English class, but those things are boring I tell you-the last one I read was about a man saying he needed to be raped by God in order to be born again. I really have no idea why I ever need to learn that. However, I do feel that Shel Silverstein's poetry is very worthwhile so I am procrastinating with his fun stuff. I love this one- along with all of his other stuff. Anyways...I will get back to work now. :)
Also-kind of a sidenote- I am officially applied as an el ed major. That is one step in the right direction as far as the whole knowing where my life is going thing. Yea!!

When I grow up...

I have all these plans for my future and big hopes and dreams, but lately I have realized that in a matter of minutes, life can change without warning. I guess that is why God has given us the gospel and our families so that even when things happen we always have those to lean on.
Sometimes I wish I had a magical geanie to tell me what I will grow up to be like and how everything will turn out, but I guess the not knowing is what makes life interesting!

"Dave Barnes, God Gave me you" Listen to it. :)

Awake my Soul

In these bodies we will live
In these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love
You invest your life.

Mumford and Sons have some great (and true) lyrics. I think I invest my love and my life in my family, friends, school, the gospel and relaxing.

I'm home for Thanksgiving break and so obviously Ive been hanging out with my family, which makes me very happy. I spent most of Saturday night playing WWI, WWII and WWIII with my nieces and nephew. It was way more fun than I expected...even though Dillon gave me a dead leg! But it was so fun and Claire and Abby were my protectors, and they did a great job! We ended up surrendering to the boys all three wars, but we put up a good fight. They are all growing up so fast it is crazy!

Claire also said something that made my day-Her dad asked if he could have a hug and a snuggle and she said, "No daddy, Gina is in town" :D It's a good thing she is so loyal because she'll always be my little BFF.

If you want God to Laugh at you, Tell Him your plans

For starters, I just have to say that the Great Mackenzie P. told me that quote. I really liked it.
Also, I thought that since Thanksgiving is coming, I would make a post about some of the things I am thankful for for.
To do: I am thankful for days when I have the motivation to get everything done-they are rare, so its a great feeling when they do come.
Mexico Flag: I have decided to go to Mexico next fall to teach English to little ninos. I am really thankful for opportunities that I am given-I am given so many!
Music note: As I was walking home from my volleyball game, this cute soccer boy was singing outloud. He was not singing well, and it made me laugh. I am thankful for people who are willing to look like fools that make me get a good laugh. :)
BYU: Yep...I am thankful for BYU and what it makes me do and what it gives me a chance to become.
Friends: Fun weekends and finally making some friends!
Also, I am really thankful that Brad and Holly are able to drive me home for Thanksgiving-only a few more days!!!

It doesnt cost a thing to smile, you don't have to pay to laugh

Seek the Higher Ground:
Well this Mormon message has made me want to serve abroad. I think it would be so much fun to go with a friend, travel to a far away land and serve the people for a few months. Now I just need to find a program to do it, and someone to go with, and do it!

For now though I just stick with Freerice.com

Check it out. It is the easiest way to serve AND get some knowledge in- I like it.
